Statement
75% of children with Autism have sensory processing disorders. Their parents and caretakers also struggle to understand what their children need or how they feel. Toys and activities can help children build up tolerance, but these sensory integration schedules can be difficult to remember. Clara creates a solution to improve the sensory experience for these children and help their caretakers better understand what they’re going through
User-Informed
User interviews were conducted to identify specific pain points and things that they wanted to better help their children. These interviews informed the design and function of clara’s companion app including warnings of vital changes and schedule and activity tracking— Information architecture and sketching wireframes allowed for designing a simple and focused user interface and experience.
Iterative Product Design
Clara’s toy and wearable are the driving product that not only gives insight for a child’s caregivers but also provides fun-driven sensory tolerance training. Many forms were explored for the toy and eventually settled on a soft and stackable form. The wearable is designed to be modular and work in different forms as each child can have different aversions.
